Replaced battery but still has low lifetime

Hey

I got today my new battery from ifixit and replaced it, everything went well. I left the mac to charge (took about 2 hours to 100% as usual) and I started using it. I only have google chrome (5-6 tabs) and vlc open my ram is 4GB.

It's been 2 hours of use and it has reached already 50% is it normal?

thanks!

Please give a history on why your replaced this battery. It's a little early for it to be failing.

I got my macbook the october of 2014 and I've been using it almost everyday both for work and home use. It's been gone over 1300 charge cycles.

@odysseasts - Was this a used system?

No it was brand new out of the box. This is my 2nd macbook pro, the first one was the same model bought on 2010 (or 11, can't remember).

Did you follow the IFIXIT sheet that came with the battery? There is a process which you need to follow. First allowing the battery to fully recharge over night (disregard the menu meter), then you need to discharge the system and then repeat the process at least twice to set SMC correctly. At this point you'll need to reset SMC again before you do this.

I would recommend getting CoconutBattery which is a free app that allows you to see the battery & charging status.

That should fix things

Oh thanks, no there were no instructions with the battery just the receipt.

But I'll do that. Can I use the mac will charging or it has to be turned off?

Sure you can use it while plugged in charging.

Here's a listing of Apple T/N's that you should review:

Here's how to calibrate your battery: Calibrating Your MacBook, Air, or Pro Battery

Hi,

I have a similar question.

I just bought a replacement battery for a MacBook Air 11" 2011 and replaced it successfully. Then I reset the SMC, charged the battery overnight and discharged it the next day. The battery lasted only about two hours watching YouTube videos.

Did I mess up the process or is it the battery?

PS: I didnt get the IFIXIT sheet either.

Thanks!
