Basically my iPhone 5 would not turn on at all if it is not connected to the charger even though it has full battery. The phone will only switch on when connected to its charger even though the battery is full. Why is this so? Thanks

Probably needs a new battery. You can get a good one for pretty cheap on Amazon.

have you check if you can switch it off and then switch on again from power button while it's charging? if yes than sign of battery... but if no sign of power button.

No need to check that. It's a issue caused by battery.
