No network connection and no signal when trying to use hdmi cable

Samsung Smart tv has worked fine but now it won't connect to wifi network. It's asking me to connect via wired internet or add a wireless lan. Tried to get around this by connecting ipad via hdmi which worked twice but now says 'no signal' when I attach the cable.
