Display with black shadow?

Hello everyone !

My iMac was near another flat screen during 6 months and a strange halo is now visible :

Block Image

I remind me that firstly I saw a purple halo and now it's a black halo.

Do you have an idea to fix it ?

Thank you.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Can you explain a bit more here... You talk about a second display being near. Was it resting on it as you had packed it for moving (face to face)? Or was it just to the side on your desk so you could have a second visible display?

Hello,

Thank you for your answer, the second display was just to the side on my desk to have a second visible display.

It's like it was a magnetic field that damaged the display of my iMac :s

Sorry guy no strange magnetic waves between the displays ;-}

LCD's are not effected like older CRT's displays which use magnetism to bend the electron beam to wipe the surface of the CRT tube to excite a phosphorus coating to create the image. Here's a full explanation: Cathode-ray tube (CRT) televisions

What I think you are seeing is the seal material along the edge is breaking down which is leaching onto the diffuser sheets staining them this is often caused by heat.

Or, the LCD had a background image which burned in. Here's more on that: Image persistence

Sadly, no real way to fix this other than replacing the complete display assembly.

Here's the IFIXIT guide: iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2428 Display Replacement and here's the needed part: [linked product missing or disabled: IF173-014]

Thank you for your answer Dan !

You may be right for the seal material, do you think the screen is permanently affected or I can do something ? I have to buy another screen ?

I don't think it's an image persistence, because the imac was most of the time turned off.

And for information, I have changed the graphic card with a AMD Radeon HD 6750M two years ago, because the graphic card was dead.

I just saw that my display is clean, no shadow at all when the imac is cold and not turned on since one day. So you confirm that I have to replace the display ? Thank you

Then you have an image persistence issue. keep the system off for a few days to see if it clears up more. Otherwise you'll just need to replace the display to solve it.
