Sorry you can't take it out and breaking it would make things worse! I think you'll need to talk to Apple to get it fixed yet again hopefully you can get it covered under the repair warranty.

I suspect you are running some heavy programs on your system. I would recommend you review what you are running to see how you can lower the process load as I'm thinking you are cooking your system a bit here! The MacBook Pro's are not serious gaming boxes.

Yes, Apple did a crappy job with the caps which is likely the cause here. If you can't get the logic board replaced you'll need to find someone who has the micro-soldering skills and access to the SMT capacitors to replace them (swapping out the tantalum for mica which handles heat better).

Hey there! Are you suggesting that the failure point of the late 2012 / early 2013 15in Retina MacBook Pros is the capacitors and not the chip? So it's more like the 2010 GPU issue than the 2011 GPU issue?

Ed,

Apple has had issues with both!

They used heat sensitive tantalum caps and due to the limited cooling the GPU can cook which kills it. Both are related on how hard you push your system. Sometimes we expect more out of our systems than what they were designed to do!

Think of it this way you have a trailer you want to tow with your car. So a small light weight camper trailer wouldn't be a problem for your car. Now think what happens when you are towing a much larger heaver trailer what happens to your car's engine and drive train? You likely burn them out.

Clearly this is physically obvious but when we do the exact same thing with out laptops (makes no difference who's) we blame the system when we need to look at our selves in the mirror as we are pushing the system too hard.

So a short travel down the street won't kill your car with the heavy trailer. Likewise, a short time of over exertion on the laptop won't kill it either. It's the long durations of stress that will. Desktops systems are still the better in handling heavy work loads.
