Playback of recorded material is "garbled"

When I am playing the recorded information from my Panasonic Microcassette Transcriber, it sounds garbled. The tape is not spinning smoothly. It seems to be held up and then let go. I tried cleaning the heads with alcohol. The problem seems to be resolved for a few minutes and then starts again. I also cleaned it with compressed air and the same thing happened. It cleared up for a bit and then started again.

Yes. At first I thought it was the tape. But it finally just stopped working. The "spindles" (I don't know what they're called) stopped turning. I opened the transcriber and found what seems to be like a little "rubber band" that was broken. I guess that's what turns the "spindles." Is there any place that I can get parts for the transcriber?

Sounds like you need the drive belt for your recorder. What model is it? If you have the number you could try to get in touch with Panasonic and check out their parts at http://www.pstc.panasonic.com/Epartr/Par... Let us know how it is going.

Yes, that sounds exactly like what I need! Thanks! I'm going to order it and then try to figure out how to fix it. I bought another transcriber just like it (used) so that I can keep working. I was told everywhere I called that they don't repair them. That is so absurd! Anyway, thanks so much for your help!

Migdalia, I just posted the repair manual for the RR_930 on my file share. Do feel free to download it, it shows you exactly how to repair the transcriber. http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/2567014/... Good Luck to you
