Great idea but not a chance. You're trying to go against corporate ideology of planned obsolescence. If you could upgrade it you wouldn't go buy a new one. It's only one year away from being a "legacy machine" and Apple won't even repair it then. Upgradability and integrity left Apple with Steve Jobs. Apples' unbounded greed isn't served if you can upgrade. Your idea has become antiquated. Your thinking is 20th century idealism.

You are an an Anachronism, as am I.

@mayer - Not sure you could slick your hair down as well as Micheal Douglas can ;-}

I think we both have become a bit jaded because we have seen such a leap from the Altair 8800 home built kit computer to the Apple II and the original IBM PC to computers which now have a 1000 times more power just sitting in our pocket disguised as a phone!

Who would have thought what we saw in the original StarTrek series as teenagers which was total fiction would be real today!

But all of this required more and more shrinkage of the parts and removal of modularity we where accustomed with. Thats true with the iPhone & iPad as in someways the MacBook & Macbook Pro laptops & iMac systems. This is were I draw the line of going to far!

Apple needs to step back a bit here or come up with a better approach in recycling from the consumer.

Is some of it greed? Yes! This is were many of todays companies have lost their way once they achieve critical mass its hard to maintain it without going to the 'Dark Side' of greed! Can it be done I think so. Its just a matter of finding the right balance of vision and controlling the future of the market. Apple has a good knack on that, just the vision part they appear to have fumbled!

Not gonna happen my friend. Hardware won't be compatible with your ipad 4. Screen connectors won't fit along with alot of other things, and you would have to get the whole motherboard of a ipad pro not just the ram a cpu because they are all soldered on to the motherboard.
