Are iPod Mini hard drive compatable for 1st and 2nd generation?

No, if you have a 1st gen you need this one, and if you have a 2nd gen then you need this one. However, you can use the same installation guide for both gens.

Everywhere I checked, I get two separate numbers. So I would at this time say no but look at the interface and your numbers on the drive so we could further cross reference. Ever considered changing it to solid state drives:)? Good Luck
