What is this copper piece near the camera? Did I take something off

iPhone 7 replacement, did I rip something off, what is that coper part right there?

The ear speaker volume won't work but I think it's because I dropped the piece on the rug, not because of that copper thing. But I'm not sure...

Someone care to explain if they've seen that copper piece before or???

Options

You have ripped off the proximity sensor (this turns your screen off when your face is close to the screen during calls) without this, the screen will remain on during calls, you would have to purchase a new front camera flex. :-)
