Mac won't boot and disk utility can't detect disk

My macbook wouldn't boot. It showed a folder with a question mark instead. I'm in disk utility now but it's not detecting a disk. When I go into First Aid it doesn't let me click on verify disk or repair disk. I tried to reinstall the OS but it isn't showing any disk to install on.

Can you give us some background here on what happened. Did you get your system wet or bang it? Is the SSD still the original drive or did you replace it?

Please check to see if this indeed the Retina model, there was a 2012 non-retina.Look on the back, the retina is an A1398 the non a A1275

It's A1398 (MC975)

Just what drive is it? I suspect it's an m2 and those just don't work reliably in Macs.

UPDATE

I agree with @danj The owcssda12k480 is the correct stick for the 2012 MBP Retina

I further agree with Dan that this one should be exchanged.

Before doing so I would verify that your machine is the 2012 model as the A 1398 also includes the Late 2013-15 models and this stick will not work with those machine.

"Not for use with Late 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina Display with model ID: MacBookPro11,x"

You can verify your exact model at this link by inputting your serial number here:

@mayer Looks like he has the correct Mac compatible SSD here. He'll need to get it replaced from OWC as this is clearly a defective drive. Hopefully its covered under their warranty.
