Hey,

This topic has been discussed a few times, and the answer isn't quite straightforward yet.

Does your Touch ID still work? If that's the case, you've broke a small chip on the actual home button itself, which can be replaced, this would get normal home button function back.

If it doesn't work at all (no Touch ID, no home button function) then it could be a few things.

You may have damaged the home button when removing it, check for any tears or nicks.

The screen you have may be low quality, and there has been known issues with the home button not working with these.

The new screens home button extension flex cable may be damaged, this would require you to get another screen, or replace the 3D Touch/backlight with the extension flex cable.

Try the button with your original screen if possible.

You may have over tightened the screws on the home button itself, or you may have put the shield above the home button bracket, causing a short, it's meant to be underneath the home button bracket.

Hope this helps! :-)

It seems you hit on all possibilities for sure.. having done 90-100 screen replacements on iPhone 7s thus far, every 10th one it seems there tends to be an issue with the home button not fully functioning as it is intended -we basically do the repairs at a snails pace now. Admittedly, once we switched to a higher quality screen, the occurrences dropped significantly, but didn't go away all together. It's a tough spot to be in but fortunately if you have some soldering experience, YouTube is being flooded with videos of seemingly competent technicians fixing certain issues involving iPhone 7 home buttons. Know your abilities and repair at your own risk.

As stated above it can be a number of things.

The one thing I keep finding is that if you don't get the screw that goes into the back of the home button and the bracket quite right it won't work.

Try loosening it off slightly then test, if it doesn't work keep trying either looser or slightly tighter until it works.
