I own rental property and the tenets moved out without any notice and left all there belongings. After cleaning out the place I found an Iphone 5s with a broken screen. It does power up.
My question is should I fix it and hope I can use it or will I have trouble trying to get it hooked up to a carrier?

@rdtechservice,Rafael, Phone may be locked or Black listed and may not be worth the trouble,especially if they did not pay their cell bill as they did not pay you rent. When an iPhone is added to the Blacklist (reported as lost, stolen or has pending contract payments) from a Mobile Network, immediately it informs all the other Mobile Networks in the same country. This means that your iPhone will be blacklisted throughout that country and you will not be able to use any of those carriers. Read the complete article at link below. Just in case you choose to go ahead, I will post links to guide showing screen assy. replacement and available part to purchase but even after screen replacement there could be other issue's needing repair/replacement. Maybe phone could be sold for parts also Ebay/amazon/etc..

Thanks for the reply back as I was having the same thoughts about it. Just needed a second opinion and I thank you for that. I do have a iPhone 5s and will just hang on to it if I need any parts off of it.

If the phone still has a passcode lock you will need to get the phone into recovery mode (Hold home button with lightning charging cable plugged into computer when powered off to boot recovery mode. (It's the one that shows iTunes logo screen) and restore the firmware (Use iTunes application on computer.
You may have to download and install it to use) which wipes all user data on it.
If it asks for apple ID username and password after that on the setup screen then the phone is no good to use.
If the cracked screen on there still works with display and touch screen working I strongly recommend doing this before getting the screen replaced first.
