Caroline Isabella the cracked LCD is an easy fix compared to the water damage your iPad may have received while being in the washer.

Just like any other electronic device, the very first thing you want to do is to not try to restart/sync the iPad. This may further damage your iPad. The next thing to do is to clean it. Disassemble your iPad using these guides.. You must remove all the EMI shields of the logic board. If you do not remove those you are not cleaning 3/4 of the board. Clean everything with +90% (no less than 90%) isopropyl alcohol. Follow this guide, and even so it was written for an Apple iPhone 3G all the points are still pertinent to your phone. Pay particular attention to the SMD components, check for charred missing or broken missing. You can then dry the board in an oven or equivalent at 220deg F (not higher;-) for a few hours. Best way to clean it would of course be through an ultrasonic cleaner. Consider professional help with that When it is properly cleaned, you must replace the battery. All these steps are to avoid delayed failure caused by corrosion. Once all this is done, repalce the LCD and reassemble your iPad to reevaluate for any further damage.

If it powers up. Now if the LCD is still displaying an image it might be just fine.

If not, try connecting it to iTunes on a computer, it shows up there then is a gamble. Worst case scenario, you buy the same model ipad and you will have some spare parts you could use later.

Also you have all the resources you need here on ifixit to perform the repair(i.e. tools, part, informational guides)

Good luck

What's the model number? It is "A" with a four digit number on the back lower half. It's small and hard to see.
