my friend has a iphone 5 he replaced him self but the home button wont work not

He most likely ripped the home button cable from the old screen when trying to take it out. He will need to get it replaced if he's tried that one on the replacement screen.
It's a replacement screen that isn't one of those preassembled one with home button and front camera cable preinstalled right?
You can check if the home button connector works on iPhone 5 by shorting the two gold pins with a metal tool which is located right near the lightning connector (charging port assembly)
