Why is my battery losing power?

My battery loses all power in a few hours. I tried a new battery, the problem continues. I notice also that when I turn off the phone (slide across to turn off after pressing and holding button), the phone re-starts automatically. I cannot therefore turn it off. this should indicate something.

I read somewhere that my problems indicate that power charge port on the iphone is faulty and might need to be replaced.

Are you certain the new battery is good and was fully charged?

This kind of problem is usually a bad battery first, a charge port (or cable) problem second and charging circuit on the logic board third.

You will need to use a known-good battery to eliminate that possibility. Then you could try a new charge port to see if that helps. Always use genuine, known-good cables when troubleshooting.

If it is a problem with the charging circuit, that requires a micro-soldering repair and is probably not worthwhile for an older device like the 4S.

I would add the the immediate restart makes it sound like the power button may be stuck. Does your screen go to sleep at all? If not, I might suggest trying to reseat and/or replace the power button.

If the phone turns itself on again after turning it off via slide to power button. The usual cause is dust lint, damaged / shorted charging port. Replacing it or cleaning it should fix it.
