Hi there, my late 2011 MB pro's wi fi finally gave up last week so I took apart, ordered a new airport / Bluetooth card but still nothing. I investigated further and realised that two of the 3 cables running along the hinge on the screen had been worn away.
I'm trying to find a replacement part but can't seem to see these?

Search on eBay "A1286 2011 wifi antenna" and it will show you results. Only replace this if you are not picking up WiFi unless close to a router, if these are cut it should still pick up signals. If it is saying no WiFi hardware installed, it will be a burnt ferrite bead on the logic board or an issue with the Airport to logic board cable.

Thank you for your replies guys. I actually did try to solder these micro cables together and still nothing, yes Reece, i can pick up my WiFi if im within a metre of my router anything more then I'm off. I will check out eBay now and I have already seen a replacement antenna cables online for a 13" so i decided to ask apple today on chat if the 13" cables are the same size as my 15" unit. I am interested in this part due to it being local to me in the uk.. After a few minutes i was told I needed to ask a Mac tech, i don't suppose you guys would know if the length of the cable and the plastic section that comes with it would fit a 15"?
13" won't work in a 15", make sure you get a 2011 15" wifi antenna (2012 might be fine too, not 100% sure).

Can the cables not just be spliced and heat shrink-tubed?

Probably, I have never tried it. I repair Macs for customers, so I don't think it is good to do it that way, it is better to just replace it. If you are doing it for yourself though, I imagine it is worth a shot if you don't care how it looks.
