Are you certain that the battery charges while the phone is on? How have you charged it when the battery is dead (because you can't turn it on)? What happened to the phone (drops or impacts, previous repairs, water damage)?

The charging circuit is primarily composed of two IC's; Tristar, which communicates with the charging device and the CPU, and Amber, which is the PMU that drives the charge to the battery (among other things). Normally, when you plug in a charger, it communicates with Tristar which then tells Amber to charge the battery or not depending on what level the battery is at.

My point is, it should work one way or the other.

Please insure you are using an Apple Genuine Lightning Cable and Charging Block. You can also open up the phone and measure the voltage at the battery to see if it is really dead or not.

Dear Minho,

Thank you for replying. And yes, I'm certain that phone charges while it's on (I know it's weird). And how I charged it when its dead, I opened up and used power supply to charge the battery for couple of minutes after that I retuned back and turn phone on and charge normally.

No water damage, no previous repairs, may be some drops. And sure, I used 3rd party chargers many times.

What I think, that something (part or path) that response to detecting charger while phone off is not working. Please can you determine what that part?

Regards

Amin

The charging circuit is mainly the Tristar IC, the Amber PMU (PMIC) and the surrounding passives (near the connector, they sometimes get pried off by fingernails). That's what I would check. Of course, it could also be a defective battery and that's easy to replace.

I'm using the device schematic, what path I should test? because as I see all parts around connector seem perfect to me.

For sure I tried to replace the battery and same thing.

I would focus on Tristar, but only after eliminating the Lightning port as Ron suggests. Tristar should be able to detect something connected to the port, even when the phone is off because the 1V8 line should be active. So focus on that.

Have you already tried to replace the dock connector?

no I didn't, because it seems perfect and I'm not sure the problem from the connector it self. may be if there is a path I could test using schematic will be good.
