Hi Iv got a MacBook Pro in, with a 820-00138-a board and I'm trying to find the 8850 Lcd backlight driver. Can't seem to get any boardview etc for this model. Where is this ic as can't seem to find it under the scope, is it on the top or bottom of the board ?.

There is not an LP8550 on this board, instead it uses LP8548 (U7701) on the top of the board, near the backlight fuse and keyboard connector, not a BGA chip. No board views for 820-00138, use board view for 820-3787 instead.

Ok thanks that's why I can't find it argh. Typically I can get hold of the lp8550 in the U.K. but nowhere seems to be selling the lp8548
Just take it from another donor board, best thing to do. Is the chip getting the enable voltages and just not boosting?
I don't usually repair macs, only iPhones, iPads etc so don't have any Mac parts at all, just hundreds of iPhone , iPad boards
It's best to order the chips from China in that case, Aliexpress or Alibaba. I am in the UK so if I had a new chip I could sell you, I would, but I just pull these from dead boards, this backlight chip rarely fails compared to the LP8550.
Yes Iv ordered some from aliexpress, how about if the customer bent the screen right back and killed the display ha ha. I'm guessing they shorted something out when they did it as the new screen unit works, just no backlight.
