How do I fix my computer after spilling liquid on it?

Hi there, would really appreciate some help with this. I spilt a significant amount of tea all over my macbook pro keyboard while it was on playing music. The whole thing made a horrible sound and died completely. That was 5 days ago and I managed to dry it out, sitting it open by a radiator and then took the back off, wiped it dry and let it dr some more. I´m told to leave it for a week before trying anything but I wondered if there were some smart suggestions out there from those that have experienced this senario themselves and got their computer working again?
