No audio with external stereo speakers connected
Will it help resetting the computer with the button on the inside to get my audio back ? If not, what can I do to effect permanent repairs ?

Go into your System Preferences > Sound and set your output to the external speakers. Some speakers require drivers, if so install it.

Just wanna say if you hadn't directed me to the System Preferences (Sound) section I would never have noticed that the sound was only "Muted". How lame was I to not have checked that.
