Can a PS4 survive being submerged?

I had a burst pipe in my house and completely drenched my stepson's room which had a ps4 a few controllers and hdmi cords and so forth. I am wondering if they can survive that? my plan is to try and wait 24 hours before plugging it in and testing out but just wanted to know what others thought.

I had a mtn dew pour onto the couch where my console unplugged was sitting. When I realized what happened I immediately picked it up and turned it to its side to let it drain then took air duster and blew through the ports and fan vents. Is that good enough. Should I wait or what idk.

aishaacoburn the very first thing you want to do is not wait. Waiting causes corrosion. Whatever damage has happened, it's done. Time to take a look at it and try to see if it is fixable. Use these guides to disassemble your PS4. Clean every part and every connector with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush. Yes, you can submerge the boards etc. Remove the power supply and open it up. Careful here, some of the caps may still pack a punch. Properly discharge those. Check for any obvious damage and clean the PSU the same way. It is important that you use the alcohol in a high enough concentration so that it properly displace the water. You can and should also clean the BR Drive since water can easily get in it and cause short circuits and corrosion. Only after you are sure you have it completely clean would I suggest a reassembly and give it a try. Again, the damage has happened but now it is time for you to troubleshoot to find out what has really failed. Any suggestion about which part (if any) may have failed will only be a guess until the PS4 is clean and inspected. Check with the console guru @tronicsfix on here for more help. See what he suggest how to proceed.

Well, first take it apart and dry everything. If you see green/blue/white residue, (corrosion) clean it with isopropyl alcohol and a toothbrush. Give it a new power supply. Once you are 100% sure it is dry, reassemble it and plug it in. Stand back just in case :)

It's not just the board that's the problem, it's likely there's an issue with the power supply, and the blue ray drive

by

@theimedic how does the bluray drive fail?

by

If it's been submerged in water, I'm going to guess its not at peak performance

by

What if it was left on rest mode. Does this effect anything?

Highly unlikely, and if it does, it will be very faulty. Going to have to source and replace a lot of components. Or buy a new system.

Not necessarily, if it was off then I cant imagine anything being burnt that bad except the PSU.
