Horizontal bar appears on boot up screen - MacBook Pro Early 2011

I was fortunate enough to have the motherboard on my MacBook Pro Early 2011 replaced by Apple at no charge.

But after a week, I noticed a horizontal bar appears across the screen upon booting up. It only last for a few moments and doesn't appear again while I'm using the MacBook Pro.

I think there's a firmware upgrade I can do for the video card. I found a file on the Apple support page that would do just that.

I'm wondering if there is a way to check if all firmware upgrades have been done on this MacBook Pro or if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Thanks.

Here is the Apple T/N that gets into the firmware levels: About EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Mac computers. If you have Mavericks or newer the firmware levels are updated to still newer versions than whats listed here. Just make sure you've at the listed levels or newer.

As an example my 15" MacBook Pro early 2011 running El Capitan is:

  • Boot ROM Version: MBP81.0047.B2D
  • SMC Version (system): 1.69f1
