New iFixit battery capacity dropping after 5 cycles

I purchased a "new" macbook battery to replace the old swollen battery in my 2009 MacBook Pro 13in. The battery I received was rated for 5656mAh. I replaced the battery and used Coconut battery to diagnose the new one, and it said 5519mAh was the full charge capacity after 2 cycles. I figured it takes some time to get adjusted, however, after 5 cycles it has dropped to 4855mAh maximum capacity out of the 5770mAh manufactured capacity. I am worried that I received a defective battery.

Is this the case? Or do i need to deplete the battery and cycle it a certain number of times in order to bring the capacity back up?

Any help would be much appreciated

CAn you look in System information of OSX to see what is shown for battery cycles

Edward Coconut battery handles that and much more.

Did the SMC and NVRAM resets. Coconut Battery now reads 77.3 % battery capacity at 7 cycles. I believe i received a faulty battery.

Tell us what happened to the old battery. That might help determine where the problem is,

Do an SMC reset and NVRAM reset. 2009 models should last about 4-6hrs, you will be very lucky to get anything more than this.

If this is a new battery installation, then calibrate the battery by discharging it to below 10%, then charging it to 100% uninterrupted.
