The Xbox One Wireless Controller 1697 was released in 2015 and replaced the 1537 controller and fixes some of the problems found on Model 1537 controllers. The Model 1697 controller includes an integrated 3.5mm headset jack, which allows compatibility with most 3rd party headsets without an adapter. This controller has been discontinued and replaced by the Model 1708 controller.

No that is not how MS makes extra money from you. Have you heard of "warranty"?

Interesting. Xbox One controllers are warranted for 1 year here. If you do want to fix it you have to replace the joystick module, which should be available on Alibaba or somewhere. Disassembly and soldering required.

Yes. It's just a cleaning issue.

It's a 50/50 shot on what causes the problem. In some cases, it's caused by dust in the sticks (easily cleaned with canned air) but in other cases it is a problem with the stick itself being broken (new board or stick needed).

Since the controller is "wandering", look into the warranty. More then likely it is out of warranty** so it should be safe to open it and try using canned air to fix the problem. If that doesn't work (or the issue persists in a different form), then you know it will need new analog sticks or a new secondary board.

**US warranty is 90 days. This may vary elsewhere.
