Can I use a M2 SSD with it?
Or is it locked to Apples own flash SSD's? Because I really want to get a 512 GB in it, but can't if it uses a different socket. Is there some sort of Apple flash to M2 adapter out there?
Is this a good question?

I've not heard of anyone flashing these cards to make them successfully work in Macs.
Only genuine Apple and OWC make sticks that will work.

@rany I took a look and there does not appear be one as yet, for the 2014 machine: https://www.transcend-info.com/apple/jet...
Yes, as I said, for SOME Macs. They seem to have stopped at the 2013 models.
