Not recognizing my ssd

I just recently picked up a 2007/early 2008 pre-unibody macbook pro. The hard drive was taken out by the previous owner, so I bought an SSD to put in there. I opened it up, and installed it correctly. It was a transcend SSD370. After I put it back together and started to up with an install disk, disk utility doesn't see the SSD. Am I using too new of an SSD for this computer/os (10.6.8)? Or what else could be causing the computer not to see it besides maybe a poor connection

The Transcend site does not show that as a Mac compatible drive.
