no sound from ear piece
when i make or recieve calls i cant hear anything unless i put it on loud speaker

this answer is for 3g/3gs as you haven't specified which iphone you have..
check whether proximity sensor also is working by making call and then putting a finger over sensor at top of phone next to ear piece. screen should go black. it may be cable no 3 (earpiece and proximity sensor)
you could open phone and check connection or failing that buy just the cable or more expensive but less hassle the midframe (minus screens) has earpiece on it.
