Odd behaviour from the headphone jack

SO, my headphone jack on an iphone 5s is acting rather strangely:

When i plug a headset/headphones in and listen to music it's absolutely fine, but when someone calls and i pick up, or when i call out then it wont pick up sounds, and im not able to hear the other person, again this is with the headset plugged in, and i've tried 5 different headsets.. Oh and the thinteg drains battery rather fast despites testing a couple of new ones, so everything sort of pointing to a short, i just cant find it.

The device is using IOS 10, if it matters .. But my guess would have to be a bad component on the motherboard.. Anyone encountered this problem before? Because i feel that swapping out the headphone jack assembly is a redundant solution that wont work here I guess..?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I would try changing the port/headphone assembly as this is probably the easiest/cheapest option.

Hi! does sound play after you take the headphones out? If it doesn't, try cleaning the port with compressed air. You can also take a q-tip, remove the cotton and then push it into the port (not forcefully), you might feel a "click" when you push it in past a certain point. Otherwise I have no sollution.
