Strange behaviour after replacing battery

I replaced a bad battery on my iPhone 6. The process went fine, and when finished the phone came on with nearly a full charge. However,

(1) the phone won't charge.

(2) plugging in a lightning cable usually does not cause the phone to charge, but bending the plug a little in the socket will cause the charge indicator to come on.

(3) even when the charge indicator is on, the new battery does not charge.

I'm wondering whether a bad battery may cause these symptoms. I would think it could be a problem with the lightning connector, but the fact that the battery doesn't charge even when it says it should be charging is strange.

Anyone run into this before?

Sounds like a bad charging port.

If you have already tried multiple cables then I suggest changing the charging port.

And yes I have encountered the same issue before on a iphone 5s and used the same troubleshooting steps.

Thought it was battery initially, replaced battery, percentage never goes up just goes down. Changed charger port and it charges now.

I think the faulty charger port killed my old battery.

Probably the same result for yours too so better to keep the new battery in.

What kills the charger port? Probably cheap lightning cables and/or wall adapters. The good cables are the ones that are mfi certified.

Try cleaning the charging port with a toothpick or something equivalent if the charging cable does not plug in fully.
