Why machine not spinning?

My Kenmore does not spin,water does enter.I was told I needed a Main Valve. Not sure this is correct,since main valve controls water coming into machine,Nothing to do with spinning.

Please advise.

Tell us more. There are about 19 things that could be wrong. Is water entering during the wash cycle? Does it agitate? Does it drain? Do you get any error codes?
