installing a new cd/dvd drive

the draw catches on the pretty oval opening, and does not open. I have removed the bezel, should I cut the openings more square, as it catches on the pretty rounded corners. OR trim off the corners of the drive so it misses the rounded corners....

You have to remove the face plate on the optical drive. It pushes up. It fits into place with two tabs. Examine with the tray out and you will see the seam. Hold the top of the disk tray with your index fingers and push up with your thumbs.

Do you have a MDD or a QuickSilver?

by

yes , it is a MDD 1.25. I have solved the problem . By rounding off the corners of the tray and the face plate with a file. Works OK but has opened another problem. Has anyone installed a second DVD drive in the lower bay. I have dicsonected it and the machine is working. I did the master and slave ID. Could they be conflicting. Thanks to everyone for their help. (so far)

There are two hard drive buses and one optical bay bus. Each bus will take two units set to master slave. The drive bay under the optical drive bay is a slower bus at 66MHz. The optical drives need to be set to master - slave also so they don't conflict.
