Display Data Cable Replacement

MacBook Air 13 inch Mid 2011

I'm going to attempt to replace this cable.

Do you have a replacement cable?

Do you have a repair guide for this cable?

This requires disassembling the display.. Would you mind telling us why you think this cable needs replacing?

There is a band, about 2 inches wide that goes out in the center of the screen. If I move the display up and down or put a slight twisting force against it the band clears up and the display is fine. My thinking is it has to be a cable that runs through the hinge. The display data cable is the most logical choice. If I’m wrong please tell me. The longer this goes on the more difficult it is to make it stop, eventually I will no longer be able to use the display. At that point I have nothing to lose by trying to fix it.

I’m a trained machinist and years ago I also worked in micro miniature repair using a microscope and optical comparator.

If you know of any other options I am certainly open to suggestions.

Thank you.

Take a look at this video on disassembling the display. This may be a board problem. After seeing where the board is in the video, run you finger along it before disassembly and see if you get any changes. It may be a failing board and not a cable issue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3lhuy3s...

Watched the video. Pressing on that area has no effect but that's with the bezel on. I'll try again after removing the bezel in a couple of days.
