MacBook Power Button Failing to work

Hi,

The Powerbutton on my macbook is failing to work. When the macbook is on pressing the button has no effect, and when the macbook is off I often have to press the power button down for several minutes before it will begin to boot. Any ideas on how to fix this? Searching through the repair guides I didn't see one where I could remove the keyboard/power button.

Thanks!

Well we don't know which specific machine it is and it sounds like you have shorted out the keyboard with a liquid spill.

It's the late 2008 model, I'm not sure how much more information you need in terms of the model? The rest keyboard definitely hasn't been shorted out, and I don't believe I've ever gotten liquid on the device, I've wondered if maybe some debris/dust could've gotten into the area?

Sounds like possibly the keyboard to logic board ribbon may not be fully seated. See step #18 of this guide:

MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Late 2008 and Early 2009 Logic Board Replacement

I use a piece of tape on the cable to help pull it into the slot and then push the lock down after it's fully seated..
