How do I fix my drop damage disk drive?

I was carrying my wife's clothes in from the car and inside the box I also had my xbone. The box broke and everything fell to the ground, my Xbox hit the wall. Lucky for me everything still works other than the disk drive. I opened it all up and found that a tiny little white piece in the drive that controls how the laser moves along a ridge had lost its spring, I went ahead and busted open an old laptop ripped out the disk drive, found the spring and replaced it. Now instead of not working at all it gives me an error that all the disks i put in aren't xbox, dvd, or bluray. What could the problem be now?

EDIT 5/26/16:

I'll try checking the laser tonight and get back to you guys. I did plug it back in with it all the way to the middle thinking it would auto align itself back to where it should be, and that was the opposite of where it was when I first opened it. Hopefully it's that easy, because i have a baby and bills to pay for so spending even 50$ on a new DD isn't a priority for me.

Answer this question I have this problem too

It may be as simple as misaligned laser at this point. Once the sled and laser are reassembled, before putting the housing back on it, try setting the sled all the way to one end or the other. If the laser thinks its in one location but actually is in another it of course won't recognize information its seeing and possibly give this error.

I don't know for certain this is your issue but it would be the next thing I'd try. Good luck with it, update as you go and we will see if anyone else pops up with some insight as well. Worst case, the disk drive is replaceable as long as the board on your existing disk drive is not damaged and can be moved to the new one. Xbox and game systems can be a lot of fun to work on.

Disc drives are precision equipments, it is not recommended to repair like this.

Just replace the entire mechanical part of the drive with the same model.
