I bought a laptop today at a pawn sbop but they did not give me the password to start the computer.

If it is just to log in to windows, search on the internet for your version of windows and just download a trial version, and install that and activate with the product key on the laptop.
If it is when you power it on straight away then you will probably have to clear the bios or something like that
