Internal Display Not Detected At All

Water was spilled on an employee's laptop. He said he dried it out and "did the rice thing." Boots up fine, but no display. Absolutely black.

I've connected it to an external display and everything seems to be operating flawlessly, except the internal display is not detected at all. Under the System Information it's not even listed. Only the external display is listed.

Reset the NVRAM and that didn't help.

Any ideas?

You need to open the laptop and do a visual inspection of the logic board looking for corroded spots . they should be cleaned with distilled water and or isopropal alcohol .The corrosion will cause areas of the board to short out . cleaning the corrosion can fix this if the short is not blown out anything important . look for burn areas on the board and replace whatever component was damaged . Just a heads up Rice is for cooking not repairing water damaged electronics

why you shouldn't use rice

hope this helps

Thank you so much! I opened things up and most looked pretty good. Saw a little bit of corrosion on the display cable. Cleaned it up with some isopropyl alcohol and the screen came on! Shortly after it made a "zzzzssstt" sound and smoke came out... I think it's toast now. We'll just have to buy the employee a new computer.
