What is the gold circle on the top of the main PCB?

I dropped my iphone 4 and surprisingly it held up very well, but one small piece broke.

The piece that broke off is at the top of the main PCB right next to where the top-most screw would be. It is directly above what looks like a diagnostic tool port (when viewing from the screen-side down). I can see in pictures it looks like there are one or possibly two leads going to this circle, but is it a micro-component of some kind or just a ground perhaps? ONLY the circle broke off, the tab containing the circle was clean cut straight across.

I have ordered a new midplate assembly (the frame/antenna was also bent from the fall) already but just noticed this broken part. Hopefully you can put my mind at ease and tell me its a bit of useless copper?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Does your phone still work?

No it doesn't, but there was one other (confirmed) broken piece - the proximity sensor flex cable - whose replacement I am awaiting arrival of.

I was hoping to avoid unnecessary replacement part costs if the phone was a write-off but since I haven't received any responses I just ordered the midplate and the prox cable and will hope for the best.

Yeah, I wish you the best with your phone. Sorry I'm not much help with it, but in the pics that I have access to it just looks like a ground, but I don't have any better info than that. Again, best of luck to ya.

IF its a ground, that would be great I think. I'll let you know the results when the parts arrive.

Yeah, thanks.

it sounds like it is the wifi antennae connector. It connects the wifi chip on the board to the long top screw and that screw is connected to the wifi antenna. you NEED to replace that part or your wifi sig will be weak.

this is the only reason i took my phone apart. i've had pathetic wi-fi reception from day 1. it isn't broken or anything but there is something causing my wi-fi signal to be weak. how can i make sure the antenna connects fully to the wifi chip via the gold circle (if indeed that is what it's for)? please help! on the surface, there didn't seem to be a problem.

It should be under warranty. Just return it and apple will swap it out.
