How to I replace the Screen and backing?

So, my phone slipped out while running, then I slipped on it. Half the screen is black. Amazing the touch functionality still works, I just can't see it. I can still text and talk with some maneuvering and know how.

How can I replace the backing of the screen? I am impressed with the gorilla glass as the screen itself is fine (after taking my full bodyweight!)

Hey james, Holger is correct in saying that the whole LCD display must be replaced since the glass cannot be easily removed from the backing. Also, I believe that the new LCD and glass will already be attached together when you purchase the replacement.

A guide for replacing the LCD screen has already been written but will not be visible until iFixit publishes it. It should be viewable sometime in the next two weeks. When it is available, you should be able to find it with this link: Motorola Moto G 3rd Generation Display Replacement

Good luck!

James

Hi James,

That, I believe, is a bonded assembly. Replace the entire display assembly. There is no guide for that phone here but I suspect its mot that far away from the 2nd Gen. Motorola Moto G 2nd Generation Teardown

Good luck
