iPhone message app quitting after screen change

I recently changed the screen on my iPhone 5. Vertical lines suddenly appeared, tried cleaning the connectors and re-attaching them but no joy. Got a new screen attached it and all's well.

Unfortunately now the Message app randomly quits in addition to not being able to view previous messages or even send/receive texts. I'm also unable to receive calls; can make calls but not receive. Although I double and triple checked all connections these new symptoms persist. Everything else works fine, including third party apps like WhatsApp.

This was a proper pukka Apple screen, not a cheap third party one.

Any suggestions or help greatly appreciated.

Even if it's a proper screen, you can still get faulty ones.

You could have corrupted your firmware by replacing the screen without powering down the phone and unplugging the battery. A DFU restore (from DFU, not restore mode) can fix it, unless you caused physical damage to the board during the repair, which will stop the phone from completing the restore process and the phone will become stuck in restore mode and throw error messages. So be aware of that possibility and back-up your data first if you're going to attempt this.

You could have a faulty SIM card. Try a new one in your phone and/or your SIM in a different phone.

You *could* have caused damage to the board and caused those issues, but I think this one is far fetched at this point.

Also, are you sure you are not in "Do Not Disturb" mode?
