iPhone 5 Audio problem

Hello

I have received an iPhone 5 (ios 9.2.1) that could not power on and was not able to charge the battery when is connected through lightning connector... just showed a black screen.

I removed the battery and reading with a multimeter, the battery showed 0v. I managed to revive the battery using this method https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxCUkHjY... after that, the red charging icon appeared and after about 2 hours the battery was fully charged.

Everything seems to be working fine except...

- When an incoming call is received I can hear the ringtone, but at the time to answer the call I can not hear anything and they can not hear me.

- When I connect headphones to listen music, the sound keeps coming out from the iPhone speaker, not from headphones.

- When I run the voice memos app, the record button is disabled and I cannot record. (voicememo screenshot)

I've reset to factory settings and also restored the ios 9.2.1 firmware via itunes but the problem persists.

Have you got any idea to solve the problem?

Thanks!

Hi,

I had my charging port replaced as my iph 8 wasn’t charging. After it’s been renewed I’ve noticed that when I make outgoing calls I can hear the person I’m calling but they can’t hear me. I plugged my headphones in and they can hear me fine through headphones. I recorded a WhatsApp voice clip and when I and the person I’ve sent it to listen to it, it’s just static. This fault only occurred after the charging port renewal. Can you please give me advice ? Thanks

@dianne_ ,

How long ago was the repair done?

If not that long ago, take it back to the repairer and show them the problem.

Most reputable repairers give a guarantee on their work even if it is only ~30 days.

So top earpiece speaker may be faulty, microphone could be faulty too.

Sound only coming from loudspeaker, earphones not being detected in headphone jack.

This is most definitely a hardware issue.

It sounds like audio chip has gone bad, but first you should take it to a mobile phone repair shop and check if it's been water damaged. If there are no signs of water damage, you can try to get parts replaced such as the

Charger port assembly. This connects the loudspeaker and the microphone is on the charger port assembly as well.

Front earpiece speaker. Which is held by the screen assembly.

Thanks Ben!

I removed the sim card tray. In there I see the LCI indicator in pink-red color... therefore, it seems that this iPhone has been wet in the past.

Following your advice, I ordered a new "charger port assembly" and a new "front earpiece speaker".

After replacing those parts, we will know if the problem is resolved or if the problem persists and is related to the audio chip, like your suspicions. Thank you very much.

In the case that the audio chip was the culprit, Do you think that connecting this device: "Apple Earpods" ( http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD827L... ) would allow to hear and speak during a phone call?

Thanks

If the headphone jack functions fine after the replacement then yes it should work. Worst case scenario is that the audio chip is too damaged and ends up not detecting the earphones plugged in.

Hello

I just replaced the "charger port assembly" with a new one, still they can not hear my voice during a phone call and also no audio recording is activated through voice memo app... Still has the same symptoms as before.

I am waiting to receive a new "front earpiece speaker" and the "Apple Earpods", but it seems that the audio problem of this iphone 5 is much more serious.
