Unibody Optical Drive as replacement drive?

My friend's MacBook (model unknown but before the Unibody line came out) optical drive is dead.

I have a working optical drive from my now defunct macbook unibody (early 2009).

Do you think I can replaced hers with mine?

I looked at the replacement guide for the macbook and the optical drive looks the same.

TIA

Check system profiler. The only thing that you need to make sure of is that its SATA or IDE. If her computer has the same as yours (I'm trying to figure out if yours has an IDE or SATA), you can swap.

http://grab.by/6eA4 That is where you would find out. If the DVD drive is listed under Serial-ATA then its SATA if its under ATA then its IDE.

PS: Your macbook, if its the white polycarbonate unibody, is a SATA drive.
