i have external speakers hooked up to IMAC work fine, but my microphone and internal speakers do not function. please let me know if this can be repaired and how much would repair cost.

Some speakers (like my Bose) require a driver that needs to be downloaded and installed.
Go under the Apple to System Preferences > Sound > and first try selecting Line out. Please give us the make and model number of your speakers. Also try both sound ports.
