Please add more detail to your question, it is very vague, making it difficult to discern what the problem is.

Am I correct in understanding that the audio ONLY plays in the left side?

The first thing to try is to make sure your data is backed up and restore the iPod.

If that doesn't help, it sounds like the headphone jack is bad, which is soldered onto the logic board. You'd need to replace the logic board to fix the problem (it may be possible to fix the problem with solder, but the components are so small and fragile that this is VERY difficult).

Or it could have lint and dust stuck in it.

Sounds like you have an "open" not a "short"

If you wiggle the headset jack does it than play in both ears?

mine does this and it plays in both when you wiggle it, I dont understand what all the pins in there do and which ones to toy with to fix it.

i have the same problem. i'm only able to hear out of my right headphone and i don't know what else to do. when i wiggle it, it still doesn't work. i've tried swabbing alcohol in it, and that doesn't work either.

DeAnna Alston, you get far more help from the experts on here if you ask your OWN question. Right now it looks like you answered a question that is over one year old. My guess is that you will have to replace the jack, but ask your own question and you will get the help you need to get it fixed.
