What are you planning to do with it? Gaming, word processing, PhotoShop rendering?

Its all a matter of personal preference Intel is in everything its in Mac so most everyone here will endorse it and shout up its value and with it you can't go to far wrong. You'll have a wider selection of motherboards and processors to choose from. A wide selection to choose from depending on what you intend to do with your PC. Ok enough Intel horn blowing lets talk AMD. Reliability , cooler op temps, slower but less apt to blue screen did I mention slower but reliable . I have been in work environments were both Intel and Amd are used and all you here about is so and sos PC is faster than mine why but that complainer never has issues with there machine. Another point if you are requiring multi tasking processors like running Photoshop and maya and rendering all at the same time get a 8 core AMD slow and steady will win this race but if your wanting to blast your way out of a bad day in Call of Duty Intel is defiantly the way to go. One last little thing that can make or break a deal .... money . You can save a lot in both the cost of the processor and motherboard by choosing AMD. You can save enough to buy a better video card and more ram. As for my own personal preference I have AMD in my PC and Intel in my Laptop and iMac. I wont say one is better than another as far as I'm concerned there both fine.

Hope that helps some

Really clear as mud

That depends entirely on your preference really and what you intend on doing. If you want a low cost solution, AMD APUs will be the best option. If you want to build a gaming computer you may go with a higher end AMD or with an i5. If you intend on encoding video or crunching numbers you could go with an i7.
