Can NVIDIA Radeon HD 2600 be used in 2006 iMac?

The video card on my late 2006 iMac 24 (White Intel iMac EMC 2111)is going. I found a Radeon HD 2600 from a 2007 Aluminum iMac 24 (EMC 2134)and was wondering if it could be used to replace the failing card in the iMac.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Here how it's replaced: iMac Intel 24" EMC 2111 GPU Assembly Replacement

Your GPU is one of two:

Video Card: GeForce 7300GT VRAM Type: GDDR3

Details: NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT default graphics processor with 128 MB of GDDR3 SDRAM using PCI Express. GeForce 7600GT with 256 MB of GDDR3 SDRAM also available at the time of purchase for an additional US$125.

As this is one of the top results when searching, I wanted to provide an update based on my research.

I have a 24” Late 2006 iMac with a failed GPU. I bought a 256MB GT 7600 from eBay and swapped it out using the iFixit guides.

The iMac now works great!!

I do not think a newer GPU could work

If it is an iMac bought straight from Apple (in other words, not a hackintosh), then replacing your graphics will be impossible.

(As a side note, Radeon cards are AMD; Nvidia produces the GeForce line)
