You need a ATA or IDE 2.5" internal hard drive like this one: [linked product missing or disabled: IF107-069]

Please tell us exactly which machine you have to get installation instructions.

Yes you can install any 2.5 " ATA ( non new sata ) hard drive. I recommend you a 7200 rpm drive for maximal performance, specially I found that 320 GB western digital Scorpio Black has better performance over any samsumg, toshiba, seagate or hitachi.

I really like the 320 GB western digital Scorpio Black drives but I've only found them in SATA formats.
