My SuperDrive reads discs intermittently -- fix or replace?

The SuperDrive in my early 2009 MacBook Pro reads discs intermittently. Sometimes it doesn't read any discs, other times it reads all discs. Sometimes it reads discs that it couldn't read minutes before. Is it possible to fix this? If so, how? Or would it just be better to buy and install a replacement drive?

There's really dot much I've ever been able to do when trying to repair one. They are cheap, supply and demand, so I'd just stick the newest one I could find in it. Also, easy to replace: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Late 2008 and Early 2009 Optical Drive Replacement

Buy a USB drive, cheaper, easier and no risk.
