My iMac doesn't start ...

Hi All,

I read almost everything published on this great portal but I'm still a little bit confused :-). I followed also the step by step guides for disassembling the imac and the scenario is as follow:

the symptoms are:

- when i push the power button, the startup chime is ok

- led1, led2 and led3 light are on

- led4 is off (what does it mean exactly, pls?)

- the fun doesn't run

... nothing appears to the screen, apple logo or other. it remains black !!

Any suggestions for fixing would be very appreciated, thank you.

Regards, Andrea

See it you can discern a desktop when it is booted with a flashlight. If so replace the inverter.

thank you Mayer, unfortunately not. Nothing flashes at the boot on the screen... it is totally black. it could be a low cost solution :-)

Hook it up to an external monitor and see if a video signal is being generated. If not then you're looking at replacing the GPU card, expensive and not an easy job.
