iPhone 5s Grey Screen

I fixed an iPhone 5s from water damage, cleaned the board with 99.9% IPA and replaced the batter and every single function worked. It passed all my tests so I removed everything and got on with another phone.

Later on I went to test another LCD I had for it and when turning it on it just had a grey screen and the backlight was on but it wasn't doing anything. When I went to put the old cracked screen back on it won't do anything now

I'll also add that the phone was fully restored and updated after replacing the battery etc.

any ideas?

Surely the phone would still show signs of life without the LCD?
