my son was playing with my phone today around twelve and when I got it from him the phone was powering off. the phone came back on but has been on a black screen with an apple in the middle of it. ive taken the battery out and waited a few minutes and put it back in but again once powered back up its back to the same screen. can someone help me or tell me wat its doing

This sounds like the software could be corrupted in some way, if the Apple Logo has come up and nothing is happening you would most probably need to factory reset the device. Put the phone into DFU Mode and restore it through the computer. The link should give you a break down of how to do this
